then i've got those lil ants that love sugary things that are dropped like a raisin or a fruit drink spill or a piece of dog food....

Then I've got those big black ants with the jaws.... My neighbor has them on a tree and they treated and then all of a sudden we got them. aaaaaaaaaah.

dastardly dastards!!

I wishthey would go away here I have the ant motels, terro ant spray everything and the stupid little things are still everywhere. I even found them out on my front porch eating CAT FOOD!!

maplesky7 and chickabator, get the liquid Terro that comes in a small bottle. You put a drop on the little squares and put them on your kitchen and bathroom sinks and elsewhere. The ants find them, eat some, and literally act like someone on LSD. After about a week you don't see hide nor hair from any ant.

Dang! You "got it bad, and that ain't good." I guess it can be a never-ending battle depending on where you live and the the kind of ant (there are thousands of kinds). If I found a brown recluse or black widow spider under my couch... Can't imagine how I'd handle it. Hmm, I never be comfortable in my home again though.

Well, another batch of ants got started. We gave up and called an exterminator. He's here NOW. Sure hope he can get rid of them; if not, I'm moving.

EDIT: I plied the guy with beer, and he did a thorough job. Hope that got 'em. If not, anyone wanna buy an infisted house, cheap.

This is good to hear. We have cats and are worried about using poisons. Have heard that baby powder will repel them and also cayenne pepper will, too, though it is not practical to get it everywhere. The kind we are cursed with will go for sugary stuff or any other crumbs (our cat-food dishes have to sit in plates with water in them---moats). When you squish them they have a bad odor, like a chemical odor, though it does not really smell like urine. They do hate vinegar---in fact it is sort of fun to make a circle of vinegar around a few and corral them in. They won't cross the vinegar (yes, I obviously have too much time on my hands if I am herding ants...)

We use an ant spray called Camicide. It is the only one that is safe to use around birds, and since we have parrots as well as the chickens we had to find the right spray. The spray works extremely well and is safe for birds but NOT reptiles.
Good luck with the little ***** or as they would say in England, *******.

BTW, we live on a multiplex ant hill, but since the chickens are in the front yard, they only come in through the back...thinking about changing that...

TRY 3 TBL BORIC ACID MIXED WITH 1 CUP SUGAR AND 3 CUPS WATER. SPRAY O SOAK COTTON BALLS IN IT AND PUT EVERYWHERE YOU SEE THEM
