We got 16 chicks on Wednesday and the Black australorps seem to be smaller than the others. We got many breeds, buff orps, ee, Silver laced wyandottes, welsummers. The others are really growing their feathers in but the Black australorps don't seem to be getting bigger as fast. They are lively and seem fine. Just wondered if they grow more slowly. Any ideas!!!

Just my experience, which isnt a whole lot, but... My understanding is, with the heavy breeds, Australorps and Jersey Giants (I have both) they grow their skeletal structure first, to support their future weight, so yes they seem to grow more slowly. My JBG's and Australorps are the ones who are smaller than my other standard size chicks, who are diff breeds, but the same age. I noticed that size discrepancy too! Seem slower to feather out too, but they sure eat alot!

Anyone else??
