Tiny bugs in the wood of my chicken coop.

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new chicken mom, and my coop is brand new - only a month old. We polyurethaned the outside of the coop for waterproofing. I have only one hen but am getting a second hen next weekend to keep her company. All of you who were so kind to respond to my questions a few weeks ago, I thank you all very much! My new question is: I'm seeing tiny, minuscule bugs walking around the wood, and when I clean her nesting boxes all these bugs are underneath the hay, even the nesting box she doesn't use. She was an abandoned hen who adopted me. She was in my yard for weeks and I decided to buy her a coop and keep her. I do believe she is an older girl - she isn't laying at all, which is fine with me- I only wanted to save her little life, and give her a nice home. Anyway, it's a wood coop. Are these little bugs mites or lice even? Are these bugs normal? I'm learning my way through being a new chicken mommy. This is my first experience ever, but I love her so much! Can anyone tell me about these little bugs and what, if anything, I should do? Thank you so much and have a great week! Best, Annalee

If they are everywhere they are probably mites or lice. Are there any on your hen? Look under her wings and near her vent.
