Tiny duckling! Anyone else experienced one like this?

@YodaBat do they all have that badly pigeon toed feet? Or is it just coincidental they’re both standing like that? Lol. Mine sometimes step on their own feet too, and do that occasionally. I assume you’re supplementing niacin if they all do, though?

Well, hobbles came off today and so far seems ok. But something new has started - peeling skin/scales on the inside of the hock joint of the uninjured leg, and on the bottoms of the feet and patches up the legs. The skin underneath appears normal, but it’s bizarre... looks like a reptile’s shed. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Doesn’t seem painful or to be bothering the duckling but man, this dude is so weird... I’ll try to get pics later, he’s had enough of me fussing with him.

Here’s his peeling legs. It does seem to irritate him a bit, he sits and rubs/picks a bit. I’ve allowed him access to a supervised bath in a shallow container once a day, and otherwise fought the losing battle to keep his brooder clean and dry. He’s on electrolyte/vitamin supplement and some additional B vitamins as well, since he had a wide stance, pigeon toes, and a deviation in his left leg. Those things are improving quite nicely so far.

He’s -finally- growing! And standing and walking well. He does have a much wider stance but I’m hoping that’s just because I’m comparing him to runners.. lol unfortunately he’s another imprinted drakelet. How do I keep getting myself into these situations? 🤦‍♀️ My first “boy’s club” will be constructed for these fellas since i now have 4 drakes... one of which is a mule I acquired from someone else... and only 3 females...

What a fighter !

Just wanted to say I think its great the amount of effort you put in with this little one - we had a small problem duckling (Wonky - his story is on the forum) and he didnt find his growing groove until five weeks.

He has now caught up (yeap, drake too !) And is out with his hatchling friends and is keeping up !

We'll be keeping him - suspect he won't be a lover or a fighter ans thats ok !

This little guy is starting to pack on the grams (he’s not quite gaining whole kg/lbs yet haha) still tiny compared to his sisters but he’s starting to catch up. Good strong legs now and the peeling has stopped. I’ll probably cut back a bit on the extra (extra) niacin this weekend if he still looks good.

Great news and well done on all your care !!

As an aside, we kept Wonky on extras up until 6 weeks - use your judgement bcos you can see the impact to your ducky.

Keeping it all crossed !
Yep, thanks for the reminder! definitely no issue there - I’ve been giving even more in addition to the normal extra that I add to the duck starter from our local co-op, because it’s still low in niacin even though it’s supposed to be meant for ducks. :) seems I get one bird in every batch that’s a little smaller, a little slower. Lol. And that one always seems to be the favorite. :p
