I got one smaller than that about a week ago. I was shocked when I looked in the nest and saw that egg along with the other eggs. At first I wasn't even sure it was an egg because of the size. It looks perfect on the outside. I haven't broken it open yet to see what the inside looks like. What caused a Buff Orpington to lay an egg that size?

I have had hens that age lay a tiny egg, I had a bantam hen that had been laying good sized eggs for 6 months. Then she layed a egg that was the size of a pea. I don't know what makes them lay tiny eggs.
We had our BJG go broody and she hatched a chick we took the chick because the hen did not like it and was pecking at the baby so when she stoped being broody and started to lay again the first egg we got from her was that small we called it midget egg
