One of my 2 year old Buff Orpingtons is laying eggs about the size of a quarter. I have had 3 in about 2 weeks. Before that everyone stopped laying for a bit. Probably the heat and nutrition isues which I have addressed by adding more protein and bananas for potassium. The protein has helped. I am not depending on the eggs. Four hens still lay more than we eat. My question is: is this hen okay? I once had a jumbo egg from someone that was about a 3 yolker.I know there is variance but does this seem like a nutritional issue?
thank you

i have a americauna that is five months old.she just started laying about ten days ago.she lays a blue egg that is not much bigger than a bird egg.i don't know if that is normal or not.she is a small pullet.so you not alone.

When hens start laying for the first time or after a break they can lay odd eggs, including small ones. Stress also can cause it to happen. How hot has it been? Pullets start with smaller eggs and work the size up.

The temperature has been in the high 80s.-- better than what it was a few weeks ago. My hen laid another today. She is 2 years old and small. She has always been a bit odd like not sure if she will eat something. Oh well...it's okay.
