Tips for a brand new turkey mama. (And resources for further reading, too, please.)

My mother and sister, in their infinite wisdom, decided to purchase a baby turkey for me. They just dropped it off at my home and I am going to have to call the feed store they bought it from to ask some questions (namely, age and breed).

Does anyone have any tips for a sudden turkey mama? Any online resources you can direct me to with valuable information about turkey care?

Thank you for the links! There is a good chance IF the bird is big enough come that time of year that it will be Thanksgiving dinner. We'll see.

Hehehe. That's exactly why my sister felt the need to buy it for me! I had no warning, no time to prepare something for the bird when it got here. She's just lucky that I had a cage on hand (from our chickens) to use! LOL

You wouldn't happen to have any idea on the breed/age of this bird, do you? She was told 6 weeks at the store and I haven't had a chance to call them yet. Even then, I know feed stores like that one are notorious for mixing breeds/ages up... at least for chickens, that is.

Yes, they are very young. They look like they could be 5- 6 weeks old (guessing and remembering what mine looked like at that age). So, what the feed store said sounds accurate. I would agree with them.
