tips for breaking up pallets?

We discovered during our work:
Pallet makers build pallets with the thought in mind that they'll never be taken apart. lol
Not only were many of the nails spiral-shanked, they were also cement/glue-coated, surely put in by nail guns, which often left the heads out of reach until you pounded them out from the other side.
Pallet makers like staples as much as they like nails.

And my daddy wouldn't dare let a board with metal in it touch any of his saws, so I pulled out each and every single nail and staple.
 
Here is my pallet coop that I've been working on for a few weeks. I'll have another posted once it's done. You'll get the idea.
