Tips for cleaning your styrofoam incubator?

Yeah my bator still smells too! I did not really clean the top except to put it outside in the sun. I was worried about getting it wet and ruining it. I did not soak in bleach though. Sounds like I need to get some other stuff for cleaning too! Thanks for all the tips!! AND of course I am awaiting the dishwasher results! lol!

I could use some styrofoam sanitization help, too!

I bleached my still air Hova-bator over the weekend (a dilute solution) and have let it sit outside, soak in plain water, sit outside again, and now am trying running a sauna in there with the windows open to try to steam out the bleach fumes, but it still reeks.
I was hoping to use it for hatching this weekend, but it doesn't look like that's happening, now. Any tips on getting rid of the fumes?
Or maybe my nose is just too sensitive?

I could also move the eggs that will be still incubating into the Hova and use the not-smelly LG for the hatcher if the fumes would be less problematic to ducklings still in the eggs than ones using their lungs.

Advice?

i line the bottom of mine with a puppy pad. wash the grate and pans, wipe off the hydrometer. quick easy and cheap. mine is a homemade one made out of a styrofoam cooler with a light. so this may not be the solution for you, but it is an idea.

My hovabator is still air and their is wire, and the wafer thermostat, and metal piping all on the top/lid, how do I clean around that? Do I just dip a rag in bleach solution and wipe around everything. If i use oxine as a final disinfectant should I also wipe that around, or spray it, would the gadgets on the lid be okay?

I am buck sound and safe i made it on the spot i programmed the dish washer to the lower temperature and passed the drying program (i was afraid of the high drying heat on the styrofoam and it worked grate now i have a brand new bottom and grid we have to find some solution for the top that has all the electric staff and money to send the wife shopping

Glad it worked for you. I might have to try that this time - maybe Monday. My eggs started to hatch today :jumpy

That is good to know--now you don't have any "stuff" stuck down in the bottom of the dishwasher do you??? I think I would maybe run an empty load or something to clean it out but really when I cook chicken, I don't worry about all the "stuff" I leave on the precook dishes so what is so different? Well ok it might be a little different. My incubator is back up and stabilizing so I will have to try it next time!! Thanks for running the experiment. Hey what dishwasher soap did you use? Or did you use any? That is too bad about not using the high heat--I would really like to use my sterilize cycle.
