Thanks so much! I just hope everything goes well! We will know in... 19 days!! =)

How old are your kids?

I have eggs incubating in my daughter's first grade class. I talked to them quite a bit about the process. I also really, really drilled it into their heads that they can't touch the incubator for any reason, and if they see someone doing that, they should tell their teacher immediately. I had them all raise their hands and promise to not touch it at all.

So far, so good. We're 15 days in, and I went to candle them today and all 7 (yep, using a Brinsea Mini Advance too!) are wiggling around.

I have a chicken blog in my signature. One of my more recent entries has a bunch of links and information that I passed on to the teacher for the kids to talk about.

Good luck to you!

Hi.. I am a first grade teacher of 29 students. I have a table in the room that is off limits to the students. They can go up to the incubator.. but NOT touch it! The students get SO excited when they hear the eggs are turning! I can't wait for them to experience the first pip! I am a little concerned about the humidity level.. I filled the water pot before I let work today (at 4) I am not sure if I should go in again tomorrow to check on the water. How long can you have the eggs out when candling them?

Oh so many questions... BUT SO excited!

Awww, thanks!! I'm glad you like it! Only my mom reads my regular blog. Even she won't read the chicken blog. -sigh-

I've been following directions from Brinsea on water- I add water to one sidewell, and don't add again until it's out. So, I've been more or less filling it on Fridays and Tuesdays. It's been going fine.

I've candled three times now. Each time, I've just unplugged the whole incubator, and walked it across the hall to the staff bathroom, and then candled in there. Last time I had two teachers watching, this time I had three. They were completely enchanted. And today was boring because they're 15 days along, which is not so interesting on the candling front.

Things have been going so smoothly that I haven't felt any need to try and get into the school on the weekend (and a good thing too, for some reason, they won't give me keys to the building. Weird.)

The kids have been soooooooooo excited about these chicks. I'm really hoping for an amazing hatch for their sake. The teacher made a countdown chain because the kids were driving them crazy asking if the eggs were going to hatch yet.

I've heard of other people doing a school hatch, but they don't take the incubator to school until lockdown. I have to admit the idea has appeal. Then again, maybe it's good for kids to not have instant(ish) gratification.

Hmmm.. I will have to keep that in mind for next year (incubator to school at lock down) I can't wait to candle the eggs tomorrow AM.. =)

I will be checking your blog!!
