Tips of comb kind of purple

My seven year old Buff Orpington hen's comb tips are looking purple-ish. Cant be frost bite, its been warm, actually hot the last couple days. Checked her for crawlies on her vent this afternoon and saw nothing. She's healthy otherwise, eating very well, poops fine, lays eggs and sometimes tries to crow. Any ideas anyone?

Purplish usually means lack of oxygen or circulation (anemia). You might try worming.

Purplish could also be dirt. Sometimes they get themselves into messy stuff which coats their combs.

Darkening spots could be sign of pox.

At her age, though, I suspicion something internally sinister could be lurking. She may simply not be getting as much oxygen or blood, or it could simply be her hormones are shifting so that her comb is looking more discolored (hence the crowing).

Thank you for the thoughts. Her comb looks better this morning. She was broody for a couple weeks and her comb starts to flop over when she's broody but comb had straightened up in the last couple weeks of not being broody. She has been laying more eggs than she did last year and trying to crow more than she did last year.

She looks fine in that photo.

Since she was recently brooding, it is most likely just hormonal changes.

Continue to watch her. If the whole comb looks blue or there are significant blue spots on the comb, then there is likely concern.

But later in the evening get a little bluish tinge to the back tips.
