Is the whole yard brown mulch? That stuff is dyed and when the ducks dust bath they are rolling in dyed mulch, maybe.

Do your duck's dust bathe?

They will do a molt again in the late summer/early fall, so, just give them some time and they should be getting some new nice looking feathers in.
