You can 'free range' them but expect losses due to predators. Crown cranes don't breed very well or at all in small 'backyard type enclosures.

Fortunately these are fairly inexpensive and readily available birds. I'm sure it'll be fine.

As an endangered species, one would hope that everyone who has them is trying to keep them alive and breeding in ideal conditions.
