Hello, i am a 16 year old girl who is thinking about getting ducks. i do not have any yet; however, if i do end up getting some, i was wondering if anyone can help me or give me advice on good bedding for ducklings. i know wood shavings arent the best because they might choke on them, and that ducklings cant have too much of a flat surface because of their feet, so i was thinking that maybe someone would give me other easy or unique alternatives. like bunches of shredded newspaper maybe? any help would be appreciated. thank you.

. I use pine shavings for my ducklings and they are doing great on it. I also used puppy pee pee pads under it to help absorb the water (they play in their water all the time) They didn't eat it but would "play" with the pine shavings; More like feel it with their beaks. I have always read that newspaper increases their chances of getting splayed leg. Not only that but I think the ink on the paper will rub off on their feet like it does on our hands... that can't be too healthy for them either.

I use pine shavings for my duckies.

The bag I get is the shaved ones (not pine flakes) from TSC. You can get a big cube of it for like 5 bucks. A little goes a long way.

Horse stall pellets, they go farther than shavings, absorb 100% more moisture than shavings, easy to clean, nice to toss on the garden or compost.

I keep saying i am going to try this lol I use them in the barn with the horses, they are really helpful. All that said, i have used shavings for all my ducks from brooder to barn... but i am determined to try some pellets!

I may try pellets too next time I go for bedding. I have been thinking about it for quite a while.
