Tips on leading a stubborn Percheron gelding?

I do one of two things and haven't found a horse to not learn yet. One that has been mentioned a few times already is to turn the horse like you want to walk to the side. Once he makes a move to unlock and turn switch and go forward where you want him to go. The second thing I do is hold steady pressure on the lead. Hold lightly at first and if no response pull a little harder and hold that pressure. He may pull back just be consistent with the pressure and as soon as he makes the slightest move release pressure and praise. Then repeatet. If you keep pulling and jerking it confuses him as to which signal to listen to. Like if you train a dog and keep repeating sit until it listens, it thinks it has to listen when ready not to the single comand.
Also I would encourage you to get a rope halter. The way the knots are on it push on pressure points encouraging the horse to move off pressure while a flat halter encourages resistens. You can pm me if you have any questions.

I've found that Pat's suggestion of turning the horse first usually works, but if not I use a dressage or lunge whip and tap em in the hind quarters. It helps to have a second person. Since I work in a round pen most of the time, when my horse feels she wants to be stubborn all it takes is for me to step to the side and shake my lead rope at her. This puts imaginary pressure from behind her withers and she *should* move away. Typically that works pretty well for me because she knows if I'm back there, she's in trouble!

I am at the point that this is becoming a daily struggle to get him out of the pasture and into his stall.

Does he lead at other times besides when you are taking him in to stall him? Does he lead well going from stall to the pasture?
