we think my mystery bantams are splash cochins. And that seems right. I noticed today that Ellie has a MUCH more definded comb than my other 3 cochins. They are only a few wks old (about 3 I think...). Could that be a sign of a roo? Or do combs just develop at different rates....

It certainly could be... I have bantam cochins right now that are approaching 8 weeks. I've noticed that my roo has taken a considerably longer amount of time to feather out on his back. It's still pretty sparse, with lots of skin showing. He is bigger, stands taller and has a bright red comb and wattles that showed up sooner than the other two. I would be happy to show pics if you'd like. I'll see if I can upload them.

Here's my little mottled roo, followed by the 2 pullets. They were all from a bantam cochin variety purchase through Ideal. Sorry for the poor picture quality, but maybe you can get the idea.
