I'm on my third hatch in my new LG 9200. The first hatch 13 out of 15 eggs hatched. It was very cold outside, so the house was consistently heated to the same temp. We had a several oddly warm sunny days and the house tipped up a few degrees- the LG incubator shot up to 105! I was horrified I'd lose the eggs, but all seemed well in the end. I had the bator wrapped in a thick towel to retain heat, and I also lined the water trays with glass marbles as per a tip I read on BYC.
My second hatch 4 out of 43 eggs hatched! Talk about a MASSIVE bummer! The problem was that, with spring coming, the house is heating/cooling a few degrees each day. It's been mostly 74 in the house, but some nights it gets down to 72 and 78 if we have a really hot day. So the bator was jumping between 95 and 107 the entire hatch, I couldn't control it for the life of me. It was still wrapped in a towel and had the glass marbles. I hovered nervously over that thing- the second I left the house for a few hours I'd come home to find them roasting!
Now I'm on my 3rd hatch. Same thing! I opted to leave off the towel and leave out the glass marbles to see if it would help. It's been dropping in temp every single night and roasting them by day, even though the thermometer on the counter next to it reads consistently 74-76 inside degrees. This thermometer is correct, I've triple crossed checked it. Last night I checked the thermometer inside the unit, as well as the one on the counter. 74 in the room, 101 in the bator at the top of the eggs. I got up this morning, house is still warm, 74 in the bathroom where the bator is at, but the bator has dropped to 94!!! I'm WAY stressing out! I have such a special clutch in there! 18 gifted heritage turkey eggs, plus my own turkey eggs and marans,
What can I do? I'm half tempted to go get a new bator, I can't lose these eggs!
