Hi y’all!

We’ve had ducklings before. They are easy to get them eating.

But now for the first time we’ve hatched ducklings (10 out of 10) and two Cygnets (2 out of 3). The ducklings are eating, but the two cygnets only eat when you feed them from the hand.

They are on the beginning of day 3 and 4. Does anyone have some tips?

We feed special chick feed for ducklings, gooselings and cygnets.

Thanks in advance!

You could try making them mush or mash of their food with peas, and adding water to the food then putting it in a bowl/dish. I'd do that just to get some food in them and then hope they started eating it from the feeder you provided.

Thanks!

I’ve heard something about grass clippings. Is that something I could try also?

Or should I avoid grass the first few days?

I personally do not keep ducks, but I grow up on farm and remember my grandmother mashed some potatoes and sprinkled it with really finely chopped stinging nettles for fasy eaters ducklings , I wouldn’t recommend potatoes as base but I think it was mostly a fresh stinging nettles which encouraged eating
