A quick question. I’m looking to replace my roo. He’s not a total ass, but I certainly can’t turn my back on him. He’s much better then my last one, who would charge across the yard to do battle anytime I walked out.
I’m thinking of trying a black astralthorp. I want a brown egg laying breed that isn’t territorial. My BA hens are very docile, so I was wondering if the roosters are as well?

You might also have luck seeing if anyone's trying to rehome a male. Sometimes they're good boys, they just don't have a place at the first home. Or get a chick hatched by a backyard flock since usually those males are good enough to keep

Try holding him down in a submissive position every time he gets close to you.

He’s probably ten pounds and has spurs three inches long, you hold him down! I’ve heard to treat em like a pet and just the opposite. My first rooster was raised by a little girl. She carried him around like a baby doll. Once he became fully mature, he would sneak up on me and rake me with his spurs.

He's very impressive. I try to not handle my males when I know they're boys. I like when they're wary enough to watch me and move out of my way, but don't flop out when I look at them. Of course every bird has his quirks. Is there anything specific that seems to set him off? (Water jug, a pair of boots, sweatshirt color)
