I am a 50+something lady, married to the love of my life over 30 years and the proud momma to a healthy flock of 30 chickens. My journey started 6 years ago when we bought a house (chickens included)! There were 3 male guinea fowl and 2 older chicken hens. Before we could even move in, one of the hens was killed by a stray dog and it broke my heart for the lone lady, so I bought her 2 friends. Knowing nothing about chickens, I didn't realize the birds I bought were riddled with parasites and one passed away only a couple of weeks later. So began my obsession with learning all I could about chickens. In six years, I have learned an amazing amount and my MIL even asks me questions even though she has had chickens for decades! At first, I dealt with a lot of health issues in my flock (poorly bred birds mostly). I now have a very happy and healthy flock of mostly Buff Orpingtons and a few Easter Eggers. I am happy to pass on my knowledge when I can and am always eager to learn new things about these amazing little fluff-butts!
Glad you joined.
