I am extremely new to all of this :) I have no clue what chickens eat, or how to keep them alive.
I am looking for breeds that are both egg layers and meat worthy.
I have an idea for a coop if you can help me that would be very nice.

Ive heard a lot about cornish chicken for meat birds, but I havent heard much about egg layers.

Thanks John

I'd suggest look at the Learning Centre first of all to learn about keeping chickens. The coops section is full of advice, pics and ideas for building coops and runs. As for breeds, well, I've heard RIR are good dual purpose chickens, but I'm no expert on breeds. I'm sure some of the more experienced members can make suggestions there. Enjoy the site!

Hi! I've done my research on chickens, trying to figure out the ones to get. I know that Easter Eggers lay large eggs about 5 times a week, very good egg layers. I also know that the cornish chickens are good for meat. Also, Plymouth Rock hens are both good for meat AND eggs. You can buy food at the store, depending on their age. They eat bugs, watermelon, lettuce, leftovers, NO CITRUS. To keep them alive, make sure to clean their coop often , have fresh food and water, and make sure they are not cramped. For a coop, it needs to be predator FREE. CHickens are very easy prey for nearly any animal. Hope this helps!
