As a project for my FFA class, I am going to be raising laying hens. We are in the process of altering a large stall (12X16) in our barn into a coop. I have always let my chickens free range on our 5 acres during the day. I love looking out at our lawn and seeing my hens picking about for bugs and other treats. We do, however, occasionally have a loss. Hawks are never the issue here. Most of the attacks happen at night or early in the morning and are due to faulty cage setups. So my question is: What do you guys think I should do? Build a run or let them free range?
Thanks for the help
