To clip or not to clip????

I recently bought some peacocks with already clipped wings (I did not know they were at the time) and they cannot really jump high at all which is terrible because they keep trying to roost on the top of my chicken coop which is a little taller than the lowest part of the roof of my house; I'm guessing about 3m high or so. They keep trying to jump on things to get up there and falling down, which looks like they are really hurting themselves. I even set up an A-frame ladder for them to get up and with a metre of distance from the roof to jump left they STILL fell down. Have to manually pick them up, climb the ladder and put them up there.

I really suggest against wing clipping, or at least not as heavily as the ones I've gotten. They had both wings clipped and all the secondaries done. They are not pinioned however which is a weight off my chest. It's great that they are friendly though as we all know how much peacocks hate being handled. I guess the only positive note is that they will not get over my fence and get hit by a car, stolen by strangers or killed by a dog.

Maybe the duration of them with clipped wings may be good as they can become familiar with my yard and not want to go off elsewhere, as many people have issues with (all that money gone out the window haha!) and perhaps once they have grown back they will stay within the perimetre of my property instead of venturing off and potentially getting into a dangerous situation. But once they have grown back, they are going to keep their wings, it is just too painful to watch them try to do what is natural for them. They look like they can do a bit of damage from how clumsy and heavy they are.

Putting them up where they can not get up to may be a bad idea, if they can't fly up on their own they could get hurt coming down, there gliding gear had been compromised with the wing cutting.

Take it from someone that has been free ranging birds for years, not just peas a fence will not stop them from wondering if they can get over it and peas are very nosey, darn tings will go after anything, coons, deer, bobcats, yotes, dillers, possum just to name a few
