That is a fortress. My girls are let out of the pen and roam my yard during the day... I do take chances with neighborhood dogs, but at night they prance in the coop and the door is secured. Where your coop is a self contained run/ house then I would suspect you are as safe as possible... Unless your predator has a saw or a screw gun that is! Nice coop. With the 4 x 4 construction you can even raise Cornish X to 20 weeks and not worry about the floor caving in! Good luck with the peeps.

Thanks! I did decide to go heavier, since there are some racoons in the city. I built a portable run/tractor that is much lighter, but that's for when I supervise the girls. It's pvc and only 10 lbs. and I can stake it down. I plan on attaching it to the coop during daylight in the winter if they need more space. I may put hardware cloth on top of the plastic mesh...

Any more doors ideas? I'm leaning towards the plastic, as I can prop open the coop roofs when the girls are in just the tractor, and the floor is slatted and the walls on the side of the main nesting area...

I see you have an auto door, the German style. where did you purchase it
Not to get off the subject but I see you live in CT. I live in MA and cant seem to find any one that sells them.
Thanks

We bought ours at Foy's. Here's the link. http://www.foyspigeonsupplies.com/catalog/2100-2107.html
I
call it a "necessary luxury". Wouldn't live without it!

Maybe an obvious question, but is it solar or do you have to have it hooked up to electricity?

Nope, it's not obvious. The doorkeeper motor runs on batteries as does the timer (separate units).
