Hi, I am looking for something to reduce the smell. is there anything you use to do this? Of course I am putting sand on the floor and cleaning once a week, but would love something to make it smell better. Any ideas on where I can buy this?

Even the cleanest coop is going to smell sometimes because chickens make incredibly nasty smelling cecal poop. I like Strong Animals' Coop Recuperate, which includes essential oils and comes in seasonal scents -- for my enjoyment, not the chickens'.

For example, last fall Strong sold an orange, cinnamon and clove limited edition, and the container even has a scratch-and-sniff patch so you can try out the fragrance at the store. I buy mine at the local Bomgaars farm store (which is only a Midwest chain, but I think it's readily available elsewhere).

Just shake it on top of the litter in the coop, and enjoy the improved aroma.

We have a daily routine: scoop the coop and rake the run. We have Sweet PDZ in the coop that we scoop every morning. And then at night, we rake our run that has sawdust from pine pellets. It helps us a lot! We get a ton of rain, so this helps us with flies and the smell.

I also get dried lavender and put it around the nesting boxes, poop shelf, and run when it needs a little help.

And on the really REALLY rainy weeks, we spread some more pine pellets and add some DE.
