To keep or not to keep?

So i found out my poor Cochin hen Nilly is a lovely rooster now named Ned...Very distressing on my part because my Nilly was my baby...
However!
It was just suggested to me, that instead of placing my sex changing Nilly, now Ned, that I simply expand the run, and get more hens in the spring?
Does this sound like a good idea? Or a bad one?

Tell him, if you keep the Roo, you'll be able to hatch your own eggs and never have to buy more chickens. (Just a little white lie, later, you'll break it to him you need to bring in additional genetics)
