To Keep Roosters, or Not to Keep?

Yeah, don't have to worry about that around here.
I ask $10ea OBO and always have more than one and will make a deal.
Use a couple local FB poultry groups, dont' care much for CL.

Good to know! I might do that with mine, and yeah, CL always came across as a bit iffy to me when you're working with animals. I've seen people giving away turtles for free and what not; so sad.

Well I'm glad you didn't let them become bait birds. In all seriousness if keeping the three amigos together with your hens dosent work out and you're dead set on not eating them you can always make a bachelor pen. That way everyone lives, at least one gets to be the king roo,and if anything happens you've got replacements. Roosters do get lost in the line of duty quite a bit so backups aren't necessarily a bad thing.

Really hoping for a Bachelor Pad setup now, if no one in my area wants them. I don't think I can bare to get rid of the boys, and space and feeding isn't an issue for me. I'm currently in the works of building a new coop, anyways, and if worse comes to worse, I can just get a little doghouse for them - they're only ever in their coops to sleep, as is. I had no idea cock fighting was still so prominent where I live, but this man was just saying it out loud, as he was buying chicks from Shoppers! The employee didn't seem to care, if he heard.

Have no problem eating them, every year I eat most of them.
Except last year I gave them to someone who wanted to 'try out' having chickens and they ate them.

I suppose that's one way to try them out. :hmm I have total respect for people able to eat their livestock, and maybe one day, I'll be able to, too! :p It'd be comforting to know they all had a good life before being eaten, but since I don't have that many yet, I feel so attached to all of them. My family jokingly calls one of our roo's Pretty Boy and now it's sort of stuck as his name. The no-name plan did not work out.

I know you would eat them aart, guess that person who wanted to try out chickens really did get to try out chickens. :) I don't think the Op is going to be able to eat their first chickens though, I understand the first ones are doozys when you've become attached. I got lucky this year and was able to give my extras away a couple people actually needed roosters. I'm really glad since I don't eat chicken.

I don't eat much chicken, either; maybe once in a while, but definitely not often. :) And yay for rehoming! I see so many roosters needing homes, I feel bad not being able to keep them. Maybe if I ever move to a larger plot of land, I can start a Rooster Rescue. :p That's one way to guard the property! I'd probably have the loudest property in the entire state, though. :lau
