So when I got home from work I went out to collect eggs I have 6 chicks and I found 7 eggs I put the chicks away at 9:30 last night and check the coop thoroughly as I do every time I go in the coop yesterday I only had 5 eggs at 9:30 last night I had no eggs and today I have seven how does that happen? Some days I go out and I only have 5 eggs which I can understand but not 7 with 6 chicks too funny it's a mystery

It is possible that one hen layed two eggs in one day, even though this is kinda of rare. When it has happened to us, the second egg tends to have a softer shell.

I've heard of hens skipping a day then laying two the next. It just depends on the hen. I agree though not a common occurrence. Unless they are showing symptoms I'd say they are all fine and be grateful for the extra gift on occasion lol.

It is also possible that the extra egg was laid yesterday, but was covered by bedding so that it wasn't noticed when you collected.
I was thinking that but one day i found an egg in a weird place so I am very careful and look every wheres when i am missing an egg, not only that the places i did find the 7 eggs where all in plain sight. It is a mystery but I'll take the extra egg. Thanks for your input.

I have a few days where I only get 5 but never seven,I wondered if that was possable to lay 2 in one day. Thanks

They all seemed to have a hard shell there was one that was not to big and then there was one that was huge.

I've had it happen a few times. Absolutely sure that I got all the eggs. Go out the next day and there is the missing one from the day before. There can be a lot of adjusting of eggs and bedding throughout the day with different hens coming and going.
