Hello all,

My quail have settled in good (except for the dang roosters, they are cannibles!) and are laying eggs like mad!! I am getting between 20-22 eggs a day, including a couple HUGE ones, bigger than iver ever seen before, i feel sorry for the poor hens that are laying them! I am keeping 3 roosters per 13 hens and i am still having trouble with the roosters beating the heck out of each other, i even have a triage pen set-up for the walking wounded!! I am basically recycling roosters through the pens as they heal! Its like a battle field!

I even have around 85 eggs being pickled right now!!!

Take care and hope everyone is doing good!!..............Jason

Hey Jason!

Wow awesome!!! I wish i was having that many eggs a day! The weathers still irradic here so they go on and off and many of my adults are molting!

LOL!!!

Also about them hurting birds. I'd reccomend doing only 2 roos per 13 hens, as 1 roo can cover 5 hens sucessfully, so 3 roos over 13 is almost overkill (pun may be intended here

Juuust a suggestion

Ofcourse if you ddint have murdering roos you couuld have 3 roos per 13 hens safely, but when you have baddies sounds like it's time to try a better ratio just for a bit if ya can

Me tooo. Battle field! What can I do? I took the extra boys out but they can hear the girls and still seem to pick on eachother....One seems to have lost an eye...I'm a little annoyed.
Oh and yes I wish I got as many eggs as you too! That's a big number.

Niki, sounds like a great idea on keeping just 2 roosters per pen, it looks like my tuxedo roosters are some humpin' fools, i think when he gets in the "zone" they even grab the other roosters and play prison games with them! Im telling ya, i have one tuxedo rooster that if i let him out of the pen, im afraid he would hump the banty hens, maybe even the hen turkeys..............heck, i better keep my wife in the house!!!LOL

Im gonna take a rooster out of each pen and put them in the triage unit!

PS- Have hatched 3 baby mandarins today..........cute little buggers, pictures to be posted in the duck section this evening after chores!!!...............Jason

that was a good one! LOL!!!! I know i moved some roos around today (they're breeding age now) and boy were they happy to get girls.... the best part is watching them try to figure out how to do what nature intended even with a willing hen they mess up it's halarious

I wish I had these problems. I am starting to wonder if I have all roo's afterall

Well, it's good to know that there is someone in it worse than me!! I am only getting (now) 14 eggs a day, but I have about 30 young ones that haven't shown me what they are yet!!

My A&M's are currently getting 'on the ball', so my goldens and tibetan/tuxedos are the next group to get into gear!!

For goodness sake, at least buy her some cute boots to keep her shoes clean then!

Boyd, have you tried giving the roo's a pep talk? Maybe clean your gun next to the pen, or else read them quail recipies from food network?
