This is my first attempt at hatching eggs.. and I have one chick hatched.

I have read multiple posts on whether to open your incubator before all the eggs hatch and there seems to be multiple opinions.

My first chick hatched about 3 1/2 hours ago and I have another zipping now.

My question is: How long can I leave the first chick before I really need to move her to the brooder? If I have to open the brooder, is it really that big of a deal if I do it quickly? What's the best method when you have to do this mid-hatch?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! This really is a differing subject for people. I personally don't open my incubator for at least 24 hours after the first has hatched and then I only do if it looks full of chicks. Hatch is usually done in 24 hours for me. Opening could cause externally pipped chicks to become shrink wrapped. I say could as this may happen there is no certainty that it will and no certainty that it won't. I just find it good practice to let the chicks get on with their thing and let nature take its course. I also feel hatched chicks encourage others to hatch.
Some do like to move them as soon as they are dry and fluffy. It has to be personal choice for you as they are your eggs. Chicks can survive for three days after hatch they live off the yolk they absorb prior to hatching so I feel there is no rush to move them as they don't need food and water.

Good luck with your hatched chick and remaining eggs :thumbsup

Thank you Yorkshire UK. I just wanted to make sure that my hatched chick will be fine for the day. She's tweeting and fumbling around, so all that's a good sign.
