So...anyone have any thoughts, experiences, etc. one way or another about painting the interior of the coop. I have an insulated coop with plywood walls. DH says nay, I say Yay. Please help settle

Thanks!

It's a matter of preference. My coop is unpainted. The birds don't care, and it was easier! If you do decide to paint, make sure you do it a couple of days before birdies move in. Be sure there is adequate ventilation, too, just in case any fumes remain.

I would maybe pick a color that chickens can't see(like red).I put just a square piece of paper colored yellow and they went crazy pecking at it.I'm only painting the outside, and maybe the inside.

I just painted our coop on the inside with semi-gloss. I was thinking about carpenter bees, moisture, and how bad it would smell downwind if the chicken poop actually soaked into the wood on a humid day even if it were clean. While I was painting it also occured to me that it was reflecting the light which might be nice on the dark winter super-snow days. My coop is constructed of particle board and plywood on the inside so it took about half a gallon of paint to cover. (3.5 ft x 6 ft) And, ok, I had the paint tinted "mountain sky" for which I am recieving endless mocking by my DH and a friend who got me started on this adventure (and whose chickens have been perfectly fine without the interior decorating.)

I'm also putting some inexpensive linoleum on the floor to make cleaning easier (I hope.) Good luck!

Yep, that's what I did, too. We built interior walls of wood halfway up, then sheet rocked the rest of the way to the ceiling. Painted all white, to maximize light in winter and on cloudy days. I also painted the floor, just to seal it. We use deep litter, so it can get pretty damp.

I painted the second coop I built. The first is an A-Frame and would have just taken too much contortion for me to paint the interior.

For the second coop, I used OOPS! paint from Lowe's, interior semi-gloss. I realize I should have used exterior paint, but what the heck - it still brightened it up inside the coop and sealed the plywood walls.
