To paint or not to paint?

We are just about to finish building our 8'x 16' coop. I of coarse will be painting the outside but was wondering if it is really necessary to paint the inside. So I'm looking for opinions about why I should paint the inside of my coop or why I shouldn't. I will also be putting linoleum down on the floor. Thanks in advance for any input.

I would not bother painting the inside just because it isn't necessary and it will save you time, money and effort.

I painted the inside of mine with walmart clearance paint and I find its so much easier to clean. I clean my coop with a hose every so often and they spray off easy because of the paint. I painted white and it seems brighter.

We put vinyl flooring in our coop and we're so glad we did. We put shavings over top - at first, it seemed a little slippery for the chickens when they'd jump from the roost, but over time, they seem to have figured it out and don't slip around much anymore. We painted the inside of ours - the thinking behind it being that we could power wash it out several times a year and it would wash better being painted than not. I primed, and then painted 3 coats of a paint called aqua plastic that was supposed to hold up to washing. We haven't washed it yet, so I don't know how it will do, but it looks nice!

I used paint too, a nice off white that brightens up the inside and is easier to clean.
I already had some so I just went with the color I had.
Just make sure you are using a marine varnish type paint or something similar if you are going to power wash it.
We thought if we used the exterior paint it would be fine, its not.
We power washed it and it was bad. The paint lifted in some areas and the water got underneath the paint.
It bubbled up and when I popped some of the bubbles there was water inside them. I had to scrape the paint off and redo it.
The walls were primed first and we used three coats of paint so who knows what happened.
It would have been fine to simply use a hose to wash the walls but the powerwasher was too much and it really isn't necessary since all the poop comes right off with a hose anyway, which is the point of painting to begin with.

we didn't bother , we did put the vinyl floor down though and so glad we did.I just sweep and its clean

white paint...totally worth the time in the long run. Do it!

Piant can flake and peel.
We used 2 coats polyurethane over plywood to get a 'hard shell', easy to clean surface. It also gives the plywood a nice golden glow.

I'm about to finish my coop too. Is there any type of paint to stay away from = poisonous?

And is the vinyl flooring previously mentioned "flooring" or the stick-on squares intended for inside cabinets? or does it matter?
