To Paint or not to paint?

I am in the process of transforming half of our concrete floor shed into a coop for our much awaited fuzzy babies arriving this spring. Should I paint the floor with some sort of concrete paint/sealer? Will the concrete absorb a lot of smell if I don't? If I should paint it, what kind of product should I use? Some sort of concrete epoxy? Sooo overwhelmed! I really want to do this the best/right way!

I had a concrete floor in one of my coops and I didn't paint it or treat it. I covered it in straw though. A bit warmer for the chickens in winter. I think you'll get more and better answers if you post your question in the coop and run section. Here:

Hi - I'm new also!

I rehabbed a coop and the cement floor was painted but chipping badly. I got all of the loose paint off and did not paint it again. I use pine shavings in the summer and pine and straw in the winter. Once a month (except 4 months int he winter) we empty out the coop and scrub it down with soap and water. I notice no difference in messy or smelliness of the areas with the paint or without the paint.

I have sesn the ladies pick at some of the new chipped paint areas and paint on the wall. After seeing that I will not be repainting the floor. I do not know if a concrete sealer was ever put on the floor but I seriously doubt my grandfather put any down. We have not resealed the areas where I have removed chipped the paint.

Cement floors rocks. You can scrub that thing down so easily and your coop with smell great!
