To quail, or not to quail?

Hi All,

I was just wondering why people love quail? I have chickens and love them so much. They are so fun to watch and keep me occupied, esp. during these tough times. Plus, I love fresh eggs. Eggs are my favorite food, since they can be used in so many different ways. It got me thinking, would I love quail? What does everyone love about their quail?

Thanks,
BFen

Quail are quieter than chickens and take up a lot less space. I can have quail in my urban backyard where I can't have chickens.

When I was a child we had a chicken hen, and I remember she made so much mess. My quail are kept in pens on the ground, so they don't wander the whole backyard leaving poop everywhere.

Thanks for your reply! That's great to know. Do you eat the eggs? Do they lay as often as hens?

We don't have chickens so I can't compare, but I love how quiet the quail are and how little room they take up. They start laying a lot younger than chickens (about 8-12 weeks) and lay about 300 eggs per year. They don't have as much personality as chickens in my opinion, they're not exactly a ton of fun to watch or interact with, but we enjoy them.

Our coop and run take up a lot of room, so that is a huge plus that then need less space. And the early eggs is a huge plus too!

Absolutly ... I can only agree to the posts before.

But you need a bit more attention and patience to get them tame.
Most chicken races getting much faster tame.

But again, they are adorable birds.
