To turn or not to turn - first 24 hours...

I picked up my 7 "mutt" eggs from the farm today and put them in my 'bator about 6:00 PM EST. The instructions for the LG say not to open the 'bator for the first 24 hours. However, when should I start turning these eggs? I decided to go with hand turning rather than buying a turner right now, so just need to know when to start

This site gives good information about turning eggs in the incubator. It does not say directly but implies that you should turn the eggs the first day.

I don't understand why the instructions say to not open it for the first 24 hours. You should have stabilized the temperature and humidity before you set the eggs. It will take some time for the incubator to settle back down after you set the eggs, but opening to turn the eggs should not cause any harm. It may just take a little longer to reach the right temperature. I suggest you call the manufacturer and ask them about it. To me, it sounds more like a lawyer protecting his client than practical advise, sort of like the step ladder that had a warning that if you stand on it, you might fall off.

Thanks for the info and advice. I decided to move the eggs into a carton and am "turning" by moving a box top from one side to the other under the 'bator. The temp and humidity are staying good (101.5 and 45-47%), so I'm hopeful all will go well
