Well the Toads surprised me today. Some made steady gain, others made large gains, and others not as much. Interesting to say the least.

Week 1 4/3/2017 _________ Week 2 4/10/2017
Red 113g ............................. 212g
Blue 100g ............................. 196g
Green 109g ............................... 203g
Yellow 98g ............................... 212g

for an average weekly gain of 100.75 grams.

We will see if the average holds out or jumps all over the place.

Interesting that your smallest one caught up to your biggest one!

Actually I have found at the two week mark that happens around 5 weeks they will separate in weght again. If hers does what mine do, and again mine is not recorded because I am just not a note taker.

The girls will level off and gain slower, the boys will develop "tank" like features and start to walk like little dinosaurs. I was at 8 ounces or right close to it at 2 weeks when I did weigh mine. Of course, being an American I used American weight scales,,,,

It appears yours are about the same as mine. What are you feeding them? Do you find them stopping eating or do they eat continuously like the CX do? Are they free ranged? How far do they range if that are (in retrospect This is a stupid question, not many birds free range at 2 weeks

)

Mine are no wandering 100-150 ft from their tractor/feeder area.

LOL!

I just have a digital scale that can go between units with the push of a button and I had it on grams to show a more accurate weight because they were so small to start with. I suppose I'll have to convert at some point to pounds.

I am just feeding them non-medicated chick starter and water with ACV in it. They have free access. I do not find them eating any more often than the Dominique hatchmates or the one EE hatchmate. They all seem to nap at the same time and get up and excited to eat and drink. All together right now.

Now, Mr. Red as I call him has been trying to fly for a week probably! He wants to fly the coop pretty badly! Jumps up and tries to get higher flapping his wings. It is quite funny. He is the only one doing that. He is also the only one not getting his feathers at the top should of his wings. That is why he is Mr. Red and not Mrs. Red. the other 3 have feathers in that place. So maybe I do have one Roo and 3 Hens. Only time will tell.

Today is the day to weigh both the Toads and the CX. It will be interesting to see how they weigh in.

Toads are also quite the protectors at a young age. I went in to stir up the bedding with a potato digging pitch fork and Mr. Red and others where trying to peck at and defend the little chicks from the fork tines. It was quite cute to see.

I turned Cuddles and his girls out to free range today as I am done hatching SS for the year,

The Barn Roosters and Cuddles immediately started fighting. They have been together before and they see each other through the fence all winter long. BUT they still have to fight.

I stayed there and made sure it was a one on one fight. First the legbar rooster fought cuddles then I ran him off so they would not kill each other...THEN Bert decided to fight Cuddles.

I thought, Bert, you idiot, you cannot fight just back down now.

They both puffed up and stared at each other and they flew at each other. Cuddles hit Bert and bounced off like hitting a brick wall. Bert would hit Cuddles and Cuddles would get pushed 2 feet back.

I guess even though they are docile, they hold their own with other roosters. I am not sure Cuddlewill want to hit Bert again. That old boy is pretty tough for his age. I was impressed with him...

I hope he doesn't have a heart attack after all that exertion.

I think I might have fatally flawed last years toads.

I lost another one yesterday, A pullet. She was missing at supper time, I found her dead in the coop.

Bert and Bertha are going on 3, their kids are not going to make it as long as them I am afraid. Bertha is now mating with one of her sons as Bert is a barn rooster. He seems to be going strong considering his age and size.

Bertha is too. The first thing I looked at were the leg bands when I saw a toad missing hoping it was not Bertha. It was not.

I lost a toad egg yesterday too. I set on the roof of a coop. NOTE TO SELF,,,, eggs are round and will roll down an inclined surface,
