Like the title says we've got some unwelcome guests in our pond. A few nights ago during a heavy rain we heard what sounded like someone murdering a sheep outside by the pond so I went to investigate. There were quite a few little sets of eyes out there looking back at me in the light of the flashlight and I figured they were tree frogs. Nope. They appear to be toads and there are 14 mated pairs of them in our pond so far. I know that they will lay eggs and make little tadpoles, might not be a bad thing if the ducks can eat the, but I don't know if they'll be beneficial to the system as a whole. If they eat algae then I'm all for it.
I'll do some research. I'd prefer if they were North American Bullfrogs since those little guys are tasty.
Edit: I found out what they are and it's already too late to stop them. They are Texas Toads and since they've been in there for a couple of days they've already laid thousands of eggs. The eggs will hatch in two days and the tadpoles will start eating the algae and growing into more toads. Not quite what I wanted in the pond but at least we're growing something in there.
