today is day 14

I stopped turning on day 14. Thats what I read in monarc23's post about raising quail.

Edit: She said 4 days before hatch. She didn't say 14. But coturnix is 18 day hatch.

On the quail I dont worry about it much....I just turn them unless something is hatching. The last batch was 30 out or 32 so it looks like I did not hurt them much...

That is what I do too. I hardly even keep track anymore. If something is pipped, I stop turning. I hear a lot on here about "lockdown" but I really don't think it matters as long as the humidity is up when they are actually hatching. If I see a pip (there is always a sponge in there but it is dry), I reach in and pour water on the sponge and just let them hatch. Works great for me.

I've often seen hens leave their nests when they have eggs pipping, so I to don't think that 'lockdown' is all that important. The chicks that are pipped when momma decides it's time for a potty break still hatch out just fine.
