Today marks the 21st week since hatching and NO EGGS !!!

Trying to force them to lay early will only cause problems in the long run, heritage breed chickens will take longer then a commercial breed. 21 weeks is still fairly young. Let them start when they are ready, not when you want them to be

is this a bad idea? i was thinking it would be ok. im not trying to force them to lay just give them the light they need to lay. if im wrong please let me know.

We run 14 hours light with 1 small 15 watt bulb in each hen house to keep the girls producing through the winter months (in AZ) Our big slow down in in summer here. It often seems like a long wait, but you will forget all about it when the first eggs show up

I finally got one egg the day after I make the original post. Then one the next day. Hopefully they will all start laying soon. I was just a bit impatient.

Good Luck to everyone,

Stephen

WOO HOO !!! 7 eggs today !!! They are not real big yet, 47grams average, but they are getting bigger every day. My flock is 12 hens strong.

You'll be less impatient after the first few eggs. I get 3-4 eggs a day from 9 hens. 4 are laying and the other 5 are still taking their sweet time even at 23 to 26 weeks old. They are healthy and gorgeous.... good enough for me.

Oh my goodness, the drought of Texas made my Chickens start laying on Oct 2nd, my sons bday! But mind you they were 8 months old which was very frustrating. I was ready to start over, but my husband was the patient one. He was right, they are now producing about 7-8 a day I have 13 of them, everyday the number increases, so please be patient.!
