Today's the day...chicken door open!

Hate them, they will lure your dogs away and ambush them, I do like hearing the howl at night, but they are too smart, if you keep any livestock you will find out, they are bold, they will saunter through your yard, feed them once and they will keep coming, keep your gun ready, seems that late summer to early fall is when they come around.

Got one in a trap last season. Full paw got caught...wasn't going anywhere. Put a .22 behind it's right ear, coming out his left eye. I didn't enjoy killing it. I was very grateful it was a quick and painless death. For me, there was no joy in taking it's life. Got to respect it regardless...

I hear you, I'm a vegetarian, don't feel I have a right to kill things to eat when we such access to all kinds of foods, but once the coyote started killing my birds, well that brings out my protective instinct, and I tell my husband to go get them, he on the other hand enjoys out smarting them. I would be afraid of catching other creatures in a trap. I really don't even like swatting flies, but I'm not the executioner, I'm just the brains behind this operation.

At the end of the day, I have to protect my animals, be they dogs, chickens, or whatever. Traps help because they are there when I am not. Guns help to make it quick and painless.

We are surrounded by coyotes, however, I think our six dogs help keep them at bay. They howl in response to any coyote howls and mark the territory. Coyotes still come around at night, but they haven't taken any of our animals. We lock our chickens and dogs up at night and the cats are smart enough to get away from most anything.
