My kids just get a few things, and I'm careful to pick one nice present each for them. Grandparents send enough to cover the rest. They already have so much stuff, it overflows!

Does the "stuff" really matter??
when your 6, it sure does!!! LOL

I remember holding a grudge for 3 years because I asked for a specific doll, and didn't get it. I saved for 3 years to get the doll I wanted. ^.^ and by then, i was too old to really appreciate it.

edited to add : when I was 5, I saved for an entire year, for a doll house I wanted. I remember finally getting enough money, and my grandparents forgot to tell me about "tax" so they had to lend me the 8 dollars on the 100 dollar purchase.... they made me pay the tax back to them, too.

My kids are pretty spoiled between grandparents, and us. They are good kids, and we usually buy them stuff throughout the year, too. I grew up really poor, and never getting much, where-as my husband grew up getting a crap ton of stuff because his parents could afford to go way over the top. I like to think we have a happy medium. lol

It doesn't. I got a ton on sale last night. I spent 1/3 of what I saved. Less if I knew what stuff cost before clearance.

I only intended to get a few things, but there were things I've been wanting her to have for a while. A toddler table and a Cozy Coupe were on the list. I actually ended up not getting the original cozy coupe. I didn't feel like waiting an additional week for it to get back in stock. I went with the police cruiser instead which was cheaper anyway. I think the main gifts came in under $100.

Yeah, toddlers aren't super expensive! It's the older kids.. wait till she starts asking for mp3 players, and other stuff like that ! LOL

Edit : I also didn't order super expensive stuff, It's just, each 40 dollar item per kid, adds up when you have 4 kids lol

Yeah, I have toyed with getting one like that. Had my BIL Brian not passed, he would have built one from scratch this past summer. He wore many hats, but one of them was a rope course director. He would take a bunch of ropes, and build all kinds of obstacle courses for church camps, campgrounds, occasionally the military, and anyone with a ton of money. He did zip lines, tree top swings and other cool stuff. Duckling would have had a rope ladder up to the slide, a few different swings and a rope to learn to climb. I don't deny that I was excited.
