When I used to work the service desk at Ames department store, my coworkers could not understand how I could reprimand someone, then turn and be sweet to a customer. My husband never understood either. I was starting to think that there really was something wrong with me.

McC... you are not crazy! Being able to keep situations separate is actually the opposite...it is sometimes called 'compartmentalizing' and actually (in my opinion) is a good thing. I prefer being treated in a manner based on my interactions with a person, not based on a bad experience they had with someone else.
Liz...as a medical person I totally understand what you meant...I have to separate myself from some of the emotions going on around me to do my job and give the care my patients need and deserve...I can deal with my own emotions later.
