You can have a turkey!

I have one in "prison" this morning.

I got sick and tired of her last night. She refuses to go in the coop at bedtime and thinks it is fun to have me chase her through 3 ft of snow in the woods. Then to fly into a tree and look at me as if she has not done anything wrong.

Last night on the second time around the coop and through the woods she made the mistake of getting herself cornered.

I grabbed her and the feathers started falling out. It looks like a hawk kill where I caught her there were so many feathers. I got her leg and carried her in a not so gently manner, I was trying to decide whether to take her head or lock her up. She got lucky and I threw her in the pen with the legbars. It is relatively small and they never get to free range this time of year.

I am still debating eating her. No matter what she will not be seeing any free ranging in the near future. Just thinking about her raises my blood pressure.

Mine was perching on the chimney of the outdoor oven. When she went inside, I shut the doors, and put her in the SPR pen. She is in the same situation as your turkey. The difference being that I don't get worked up about it. She finally followed her instincts to stay outside.

I only got worked up because this same chase has been going on for 3 months. When the snow got 3 ft deep and the temps 15 below, and I was grumpy, did it escalate the this point.

The good thing is I have 25 Oopps 24 one left last week turkeys and am going down to 12. I needed a way to decide who stays and who goes. She put herself firmly in the "go" Column.

Ralphie - do you have anger issues????????

Ralphie - do you have anger issues????????

Well, not normally..

BUT chasing a stupid turkey 3 times around the coop and through the woods every night for 6 weeks finally got to me. So I plead guilty by reason of temporary insanity.

I told my wife a week or two ago I was going to take the .17 with me one of these nights and we were going to have a turkey dinner. We still may. I have not decided her fate.

She is a small hen, very small. She is a Self Blue slate, I need to see how many I have and which Toms I will be breeding this year. Then I will decide her fate. She will either become a small dinner entre or I will sell her to Coffee, She wants a few more hens this year and one Royal Palm Tom. I am only breeding show birds (APA) so I am not sure she fits my needs....Besides she is a little female dog!

In my defense, I would like to see how the rest of you react to chasing her through the woods every night for 6 weeks in 20 below temps and snow up to your posterior sphincter muscle.
