This is a hard growth on my Seramas' toes. One has it on one toe, another I checked has it in varying sizes on several toes.

Ideas???????

It looks like dried poop. Have you tried soaking the toes in warm soapy water? Does it look like dried blood?

That's what I though it was. It's VERY hard. Doesn't look like dried blood.

But one has it in varying amounts on several toes, like it's a growth of some sort, almost like a hard wart. Would that really be poop??

I've seen other postings here from people with this issue, but no answers were reached.

That's a poop ball. Soak the foot in warm water for a while and rub it away. On growing chicks and birds, dried poop balls on toes can cause growth issues of the encapsulated toe.

Happens most often on birds caged or in brooders.

I would try to soak the toes or even put one in a shallow tub of water and hold them there for a few minutes. Make sure it's warm water and see what it looks like after 10 minutes. You may have to have the chicken in the water the whole time too

Done. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be!

Soaked them in some water while working away at the top of the ball with my (gloved!) fingernail. They were surprisingly tolerant (the Seramas, NOT the Silkie!) and didn't even cry much.

Thank you for your help!!
