Toe Growth???

Just found this on the toe growth. I just noticed my chickens have this problem. They had been free ranging in my fenced in garden space but were just recently confined to a coop and run that was freshley cleaned. I only used hay that was just cut for the inside coop and probably not enough. I am putting fresh pine shavings in the coop. In five years of keeping chickens I have not seen this problem until now. I have cleaned off two chickens' feet (soaked in water). The hard ball broke and fell off after a few pinches and pushes. The chickens were very quiet and cooperative. I put vaseline on the legs, feet and nails after the cleaning. They seemed relieved without the dirt balls.
