Have 4 year and a half old Golden Comet layers. All have some degree of ball-like growths at toe nail area. Seeking input. Thank you!

Not growths! That is a mud-ball on their toes. Treatment is soaking them in water and gently rubbing until clean. Toes may bleed. Prevention includes keeping their run free of mud, perhaps by using shavings.

Thanks for that...the run does stay wet under their nippled waterer and since Google offered no comparisons to this condition I was just reaching out...these are mellow, superb layers and I hated to think something overtook their well-being..thanks again!

You're welcome! If I sounded snippy, I didn't mean to be. I tried to put an emoji but it didn't go through.:)
The "High-End Hen" waterers from Jeffers is what I use, and they don't leak. They are not good for winter, though, as I have not found a way to heat them.

I did not think of your reply as snippy but straight and to the point..perhaps because body temp in chickens is high the wet soil hardens fast...anyway, thank you again!
