My first chick to hatch last night seems to have a problem his his toes...instead of spreading out, they seemed to be staying together, making it harder for him to walk...I can't get a good enough picture to post...any idea if this will correct itself or if there is something I can do to help it?

Make a little boot for it. Seriously, it works. Cut out thin cardboard or construction paper for a sole then spread it's foot out on it and use a band aid half or tape to tape the foot to the card board. I had to do this for both feet on a chick few days ago. It takes about six hands to get the job done but if you can get the foot taped in place will correct itself in a day.

Ok, I won't be able to do that til tonight then after my husband gets home from work...will the chick be ok til then?

I have had this happen 5 times in recent weeks on chicks and quail and I have left them be for the first 2 days and they have corrected themselves every time. I was prepared to boot- but I wait and see first myself. I don't know the severity of your chicks so its up to you to decide. Don't by any means allow them to suffer if it is too severe.

I will try to get a picture at some point...that may help...I will wait it out first though, and hope that it corrects itself.

Hahaha, yeah, lots of issues!!! That's my luck though, keeping me busy that's for sure.

The toes are not curled, they just are not spreading out...

I know you still need to tape them, it took bubba cochin 3 days and I changed it daily and then all better, its easy to do by yourself, since the tape will actually hold the toes as you spread them on the tape.

In the pic above, is it just bandaids? I have card stock I can use...but if it takes more than two hands I will have to wait for the husband to come home later tonight.
