Tom afraid of hen

We are new to raising chickens and turkeys about 3 months ago we received a bronze tom that was approximately 10 months old. We decided to get him a partner so two weeks ago we purchased two 12 month old hens. Our tom seems to be afraid of them. When they come near him he moves away is this normal when new turkeys are added or is he just shy? The previous owner told me he has never been around other turkeys before just chickens.

If he was raised with chickens he may not know he's not a chicken. Turkeys identify often with the species they are raised with. Time will tell if he will take to the turkey hens. Hopefully by next spring.

Thanks for the quick response. Hopefully by next spring he comes around it would be nice to rase some babies

I would keep him away from the chickens so he focuses on the turkey hens.
