Today when I went to check for pips or hatches I found one egg that all the shell was broken off but the chick was still inside cased in membrane. The chick had not tried to hatch it was still curled in the ball I found a fully formed chick half the yolk asorbed but dead. I have no clue what happened because lastnight I counted her eggs when she got off to use the bathroom and all 7 where ok. Did my hen do this? I checked the other eggs and saw some pips and could hear the chick peeping inside I only candled once on these eggs at day 7 and all were growing.

Hatching eggs in spring time even in eastern kentucky hatching under the hen when the weather is cold or cool when the hens get off to eat, drink, the eggs could cool to fast. too low temperature is the most frequent causes of poor hatching. If it's cold or really cool cover eggs next time she gets off.
