Tomorrow is finally CHICKEN DAY!! [And I have a secret . . . ]

so what your saying is you have alektorophobia

I love it when I learn a new word! Well, I think I must have a very mild case of alektorophobia as I don't get the shaking or sweating or horrible fear - I'm just kinda' scared and over-cautious. But, I'm overcoming it because I've been a Chicken Momma for about 48 hours now!

The Red and Black stars were good choices for a novice, I think. I got two each. Two are laying already and two haven't started. They're very easy going, the red's more laid-back than the black. Not to mention that they're so fun to watch! I no sooner got them here than this horrific heat-wave hit so I've had my nose in this forum digging for info on how to deal with heat. Have learned a bunch in 2 days.

And I have 2 eggs to show for it! Am surprised that anyone is laying given the move and now the heat so I'm pleased.

I bought the kids one of those cheap bug catching kits, and we spent this evening catching grasshoppers and feeding them to the girls (and possibly a boy or two). They just love it. They were all excited!

'What a fantastic idea, I'll have to pick one up. My granddaughter is coming for a 1 week visit and she'd love doing that. So would my "adult" children, LOL!

We have lawn chairs pulled up to the chicken tractor where we've been sitting and watching them. Looks like we're viewing "Chicken Television".

Yeah, I made sure we built the chicken coop to where we could easily enjoy them. Although our girls (and possibly a boy or two) free range about 12 hours a day. I'll go sit in the grass wherever they're at on the land and just watch them. They're the best entertainment.
